LESSONS From The Life Of Nehemiah

17TH OCTOBER, 2021

BIBLE IN ONE YEARMatthew 8

FIRE SCRIPTURENeh. 8: 9-10

9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.

10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

MEMORY VERSE:-““Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” – Psalm 85:5

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:

True revival comes from a realization of failed responsibility on our part in our walk with God, and a willingness to correct this failure in order to reconcile with Him.

PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
I decree upon your life that the mighty hand of God shall continuously rest upon you for good in Jesus name.

THE MESSAGE:

God always uses spiritually and morally strong leaders to revive His awareness in His people’s hearts whenever they backslide. After David was anointed King in Israel, he realised a truth only God fearing leaders know. In 2 Sam. 5:12, the Bible says, “And David perceived that the Lord had established him King over Israel, and that he had exalted his Kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.”

David’s perception is deeply rooted in his fear of God as His benefactor to the Kingship. He never thought he was any better than everyone else in Israel as the reason for his election to the throne. This made God to love him. This much can be said for Nehemiah.

Despite his exalted position as a very close aide to King Artaxerxes, he did not lose sight of the fact that God got him there for His purpose and not for him to feel good. He led the Jews to a great revival of God’s knowledge that made them to feel sorry for their past misconduct, and made a commitment to serve Him better. What did Nehemiah do in this regard? He purified the Priesthood and rid it of strangers (Neh. 7:46).

He inspired the renewal of the covenant of God with the Jews (Neh. 8:1-7). He led them to a deep repentance. (Neh. 9:1). He secured the people’s commitment to respect the law of God and to abide by its demands on them (Neh. 10:29). He created an atmosphere of peace and security for the Jews to repopulate Jerusalem (Neh. 11:1-3). Jerusalem was no longer forsaken. It became ‘BEULAH’, that is married (Isaiah 62:4).

He reformed the Jewish social life in accordance with the law of God. This includes treating strangers politely because they were also strangers in Egypt and ensuring the House of God was properly catered for in service by the priests and levites. He also enforced marital reforms in which he contended against mixed marriages for priests and Levites.

In conclusion, Nehemiah’s revival and reformative work brought joy to the people as they were led to walk and please God. For this, he prayed, ‘Remember me, O my God, for good” (Neh. 13:31). The question is what are you going to tell God to remember you for?
