Mountain Top Life DAILY DEVOTION
LAODICEA: THE LUKEWARM CHURCH (II)
2ND DECEMBER, 2021
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Acts 20: 1-3; Romans 1-3
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Revelation 3:14 – 22
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:
15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked
18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
MEMORY VERSE: ” As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” – Revelation 3:19
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Revival can only come if our laziness at the altar of prayer is discovered and dealt with.
PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the Holy Spirit.
PROPHETIC
WORD FOR TODAY:
YOU WILL NOT BECOME A BY WORD WHILE YOU ARE STILL ALIVE, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
THE MESSAGE:
The church in Laodecia became what they were because they lacked self-management. There were many wealthy members there. In fact, all the members were wealthy. They therefore thought that with their money, they could get whatever they wanted. Laodecia was a centre of textile manufacture and also had an important medical centre that specialised in eye and ear treatment. They became very proud people because of their privileged status.
Their problem was lukewarmness and they were indifferent; they were neither hot nor cold and Jesus would never tolerate being in this type of position. Thirty years earlier, Paul had written a letter to the Bishop of the church whose name was Archippus (Colossians 4:16-17), but he did not take heed; neither did he take any remedial action concerning the letter. Hence, things degenerated from there. Thirty years later, God did not see anything good in the church. Beloved, a lukewarm church is one that is void of feeling and is negligent about personal devotion to Christ. It is a church that is lazy in its service to the Master. Such a church compromises with worldly standards and behaviours and soon resembles its environment more than it does for God's kingdom.
The people of Laodecia Church claimed to be committed Christians, yet in reality they were in a spiritually wretched and miserable condition. Christ severely warned the church about His Judgement against spiritual lukewarmness. He is also calling unto us today to turn from our own ways, surrender to God's ways and accept His forgiveness. God is ready to restore us if we come back to Him. Please, repent today. Repentance will reconcile you to God, restore your fellowship and intimacy with Him, birth personal revival in your life, move Him to open your heavens, enable you to be on fire for Him, bless you mightily and make you enjoy His favour, peace and protection always.
