LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DELIGHTS AND DESIRES (2)

5TH , MARCH 2022

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Deuteronomy 20-22

READ: Psalms 37:1-9
1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret— it only causes harm.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.

MEMORISE: "Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside You ." - Psalm 73:25

EXPOSITION

To delight in the Lord is to desire to be near Him, to be like the saints who cried, 'My soul longs for You like a thirsty land (Psa. 143:6). When we delight in the Lord, we come to understand more fully that the nearness of God is for our good, and that a day in His courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. It is far better to be a porter in the house of our God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. To delight in the Lord is to have the fullness of joy in His presence and pleasures forevermore (Psa. 16:11).

Our text today, Psalms 73, admonishes us (Christians) to neither fret, be envious of the wicked nor focus on what they have nor what they seem to be getting away with, especially, when we are faced with unanswered prayers or disturbed by yet unfulfilled promises. Our focus should be on Jehovah, the great I Am Who promises to 'supply all our needs' (not our wants) 'according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus' (Phil. 4:19). His promises never fail when our desires are according to His will and not ours (Jn. 15:7).

Charles H. Spurgeon once said, "Who delights in God, desires or asks nothing but what will please God." In other words, as we covet the presence of God, daily delighting in Him, in His Word, and in prayerful communion with Him, gradually, His Spirit transforms our hearts, so that our desires become His desires. It is those desires He will grant. Indeed, our desires will be His desires when our heart sings, "Take my will and make it Thine. It shall be no longer mine... Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store. Take myself and I will be, ever only, all for Thee!" (Frances Havergal, CACGHB 735).

Beloved, true contentment becomes our experimental reality when God's will becomes more important than our wants. Then, we will realise that only in Christ Jesus, is everything we need for now and eternity.

PRAYER POINT:

    1. My Lord and my God, I surrender my will totally to You. Let Your will be done in my life, home, and endeavours, in Jesus' name.
    2. Lord, fill my heart with the passion for Your will alone, notwithstanding the odds on the way.
    3. Lord Jesus, let Your will be done unstoppably in our churches, denominations and nations, in Jesus' name.

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
