FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:5-9

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Anyone who wants to make impact for God must have the blessings of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. That is what makes the difference between the carnally minded and the spiritually minded. Many people are using their natural gifts and abilities to promote worldly things and the things of the flesh. Through these, they gain fame and popularity. But those who are working for God and the expansion of His heavenly Kingdom are Spirit-filled. Romans 8:5-8 says, "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."

For example, a good orator or motivational speaker can incite or motivate people towards earthly goals and aspirations but will achieve little or nothing when it comes to exhortation, preaching, teaching or evangelism because these natural gifts are devoid of the Holy Spirit. Natural gifts appeal to the minds of men; they produce worldly excitement and gratification but the Holy Spirit's empowerment appeals to the hearts of men, which is God's major concern. In addition, spiritual gifts have the ability to produce significant change or transformation in the spiritual and physical areas of man's life far more than natural gifts.

Therefore, to succeed in your walk with God and to excel in your service unto Him, you need the gifts of the Holy Spirit. However, you must understand that before you can receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, you must be born again. You must be a friend of God, a trusted one at that, who will not misuse or commercialise His gifts. Operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit will give you joy unspeakable and foster a deeper relationship between you and the Almighty God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. O God, help me not to do Your work in the flesh, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Spirit, help me to render quality service to the most High God, in the name of Jesus.
3. Spiritual cataract blinding my spiritual eyes, clear away by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Every spirit of heaviness weighing down my spiritual life, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Holy Spirit, empower me to make impact for God, in the name of Jesus.
6. Uphold me, O Lord, by Your righteous hand, in the name of Jesus.
7. Spirit of the Living God, energise me in my walk with God, in the name of Jesus.
