LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL

OVERCOMING THE SOUL'S FILTHINESS

11TH , APRIL 2022

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 2 Samuel 22-23

READ: Acts 9:1-9

[1]And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
[2]And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
[3]And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
[4]And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
[5]And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

[6]And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
[7]And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
[8]And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
[9]And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

MEMORISE: "As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison . " – Acts 8:3

EXPOSITION

On this day, over 2000 years ago, during the Passion Week of Jesus, He entered the Temple and cleansed it. Let us look at how we can overcome the soul's filthiness. All souls without Christ are filthy. Why? They are laden with all manners of sins, stained, and stinking (Psa. 14:3; Isa. 64:6; Rom. 3:23). The Fall caused it, but thank God for His provision to make man's souls clean.

Only He can do that. Neither religion nor any other thing or person can cleanse our souls (Heb. 10:4). The cleansing agent of man's soul is the precious and unblemished blood of Christ Jesus (Heb. 9:13ff; 1 Jn. 1:7). Any soul who hasn't been washed in this blood remains filthy. The blood saves and sanctifies (cleanses) us from the filthiness of our sinful nature. It washes purely without any stain of sin.

Saul of Tarsus once had a filthy soul; the soul that orchestrated evil like every other carnal person (Jer. 17:9). He was so wicked that in line with our memory Scripture, he did everything to frustrate the Way, thinking he was fighting for Yahweh. That is characteristic of the filthy soul. It is clear from God's Word that the best that man's soul can think, plan, and execute is evil. Cain planned and killed his blood brother because of his filthy soul (Gen. 4:6,7). In the case of Saul, there was thunder and lightning in his soul. He recognised how wretched he was when the light of God shone on his filthy heart. That experience resulted in him becoming one of the excellent model of passion for the gospel of Christ, which he had previously attacked, as he surrendered all to the Owner of the universe.

Who really knows how bad the heart of man is? No one, except God. Yielding to the temptation of sin makes man's heart stinks. Unless and until we allow the Holy Spirit rule our hearts, we will not be able to overcome such situation, and this will make our hearts stink. When we allow God to rule our hearts, He takes care of the deceitfulness and the wickedness in us.

PRAYER POINT:

    1. Call upon God who knows and sees through man's heart to purge you of all filthiness, and purify your heart for Him and His purposes.
    2. Pray that God will help you never to yield to temptation of sin and will give you the grace to overcome it.
    3. Pray for CAC Medayese Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
