EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Job 37-38

READ: Ezekiel 8:7-12

[7]And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.
[8]Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.
[9]And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
[10]So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about.
[11]And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.
[12]Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

EXPOSITION

The trend these days is to belong-the popular term for conformity with the global social acceptance. It is being part of this world's system, more particularly, through cultism or extra normal activities. Various clubs and societies of our time, to the uninformed, are mere smokescreen for deep occult practices. These are created and made to look harmless and simple for the gullible to enrol I and be lost eternally.

Those gullible ones eventually discover they have entered into terribly weird practices that irk God with unspeakable passion. Such associations are bound to attract God's serious judgement, immediately and ultimately, as we see in today's devotional reading. The Word of God warns us to come out of such godless unions and associations (Isa. 52:2,3,11; 2 Cor. 6:14ff; Rev. 18:4).

The living God promises to cut off all sorceries and idol worship from among His own people, immediately and ultimately. That these abominable people are seemingly making it now doesn't mean they are escaping God's judgement. He is only being patient with them, peradventure they would change; He doesn't want anyone to perish. They would eventually reach the elastic limit of His grace, mercy and longsuffering, and that would be too disastrous to bear. This makes such practices unacceptable to Him (Mic. 5:12-15).

In a generation where religion, Christianity inclusive, is fast becoming a mere means of socialising, we must ask ourselves, if we truly belong to the land of the living (cf. 2 Cor. 13:5).

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord Jesus, keep me in You to the end of my journey here on earth.
2. Lord, keep me from the evil powers of this age that make one conform to godlessness.
3. Lord Jesus, help Christians everywhere to overcome the temptations of these last days.
