Christian leaders must have Godly homes

4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.

5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)

EXPOSITION

Very importantly and indispensably anyone who desires leading God's people (the Church) must be *one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence* (1 Tim.3v4). Church leadership is such a fragile position that if care is not taken, the life of the leaders can dent the image of the position. That is why men of God have to be men of repute-people of integrity and good report, within and without.

How a Christian leader handles his/her home speaks volume on how he would handle the work of the ministry. His/her own home affects the Church. How will a minister who fails in guiding his children in the way of God meaningfully guide other children in the Church (v.5)?

Is it sensible to take care of other people's garden and leave your own garden untended (c.f.. S.O.S 1:6)? Well, some people have that habit, but that is not the best as far as the ministry and home are concerned. There are some basic facts that leaders of God's people should know, appreciate and live by. The true minister of God, or leader of God's people must accept and live by the fact that his/her own ministry is a replica of his/her ministry. Moreover, God judges your achievement in the ministry through your home. The failure of Eli's ministry and consequent experience of God's judgement were occasioned by his lackadaisical attitude to the discipline of his children.

As a Christian leader, stop complaining that your family members aren't changing; you change, first, the way God wants it, and see God helping you on your spouse and children. Additionally, the best way to keep your children in submission to God in you is to give them godly example. Let them see Christlikeness in you. Be loving and friendly to your spouse. Let Christ be seen in you by the members of your home. The truth is, after God, your home comes first, before your ministry. The best ministry is the one that flows from a godly home.

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, deliever my home from satanic attacks, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, give me victory over situations that want to finish my home and ministry.

3. Pray for as many ministers' homes that you can immediately remember.
