LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
THE IMPORTANCE OF A FATHER

12TH , JUNE 2022

- World Day Against Child Labour/Nigeria Democracy Day

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Psalms 1-7

READ: Hebrews 12 v 5-10

5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!

10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

MEMORISE: " All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace ." – Isaiah 54:13

EXPOSITION

Those who have fathers are fortunate, because the roles of fathers over their children are undeniably and indispensably enormous. Those who have fathers are tutored, guided, directed, rebuked and corrected. Those with these privileges hardly miss the road. Their fathers serve as compasses to them. They are bearings. They are pathfinders. They lit up their children's paths, helping them not to go alone in life's journey. They do everything to meet their children's needs. No father watches his child suffer for no cause, expect the irresponsible ones.

Good fathers help their children to live error-free, scar-free lives. They help them not to misfire so that they don't bring shame to the home. The fatherless miss these benefits, and that informs why they need God through our Lord Jesus who is the Father to the fatherless in their lives (Psa.68v5, 146v9). However, those who have fathers who do not play their fatherly roles on them would be willing to take responsibility for them, since they think such children have fathers. May help come for such people in their times of need.

Do you have a father? As a father, are you playing your role over your children? As Paul was to Timothy, so is Jesus Christ to His disciples, both then and now. The disciples though, physically mature were still specifically taught by our Lord (Matt.6v9-13). Age matters less when it comes to spiritual nature. Children who are left to themselves bring shame to their fathers and are victims of child Labour, even as today commemorates World Day Against Child Labour and Democracy in Nigeria (Prov.19v26). Children are to be taught according to their needs. Therefore, specific training for each child is so important to train up your child in the way of the Lord (Prov.22v6).

PRAYER POINT:

    1. Thank God for He is your heavenly Father who cares so much for you.

    2. Pray that God's leading and direction as your Father will not be scarce in your life.

    3. Pray for CAC Odubanjo region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the spirit of God.
