LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
GOD'S reserved bench
1ST , JUNE 2022
-Happy New Month
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Job 6-9
READ: 1 Kings 18:1-8
[1]And
it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to
Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I
will send rain upon the earth.
[2]And Elijah went to shew himself
unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.
[3]And Ahab
called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah
feared the LORD greatly:
[4]For it was so, when Jezebel cut off
the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and
hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and
water.)
[5]And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all
fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find
grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the
beasts.
[6]So they divided the land between them to pass
throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another
way by himself.
[7]And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah
met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou
that my lord Elijah?
[8]And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy
lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
MEMORISE: " Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him. " – 1 Kings 19:18
EXPOSITION
When
We speak of the reserved bench, our minds go to sporting activities,
especially the game of football. They are players who are kept seated
while others are playing on the field. Sometimes, they are the second
selection or second best who are meant to replace the first
selection, playing on the field, in the event of injury or physical
exhaustion. At other times, they are the star players meant to be the
joker the coach plans to introduce to the game at some crucial time
of play, in order to win the match. God has His reserved bench. They
are people who have refused to get soiled by the perversion of our
present day. They are those who have decided to stand out for
righteousness in the midst of corruption.
At a certain time in
Israel, idolatry became institutionalized. The true worship of God
was rear to come by. Everyone as conforming to the negative norm.
Elijah fought and won the battle for righteousness; one against 450.
He came into the wrong conclusion that he was the only one standing
for righteousness. God corrected him (1 Kgs. 19:18). Some lessons are
worth learning in this story:
1. We must never conclude that we
are the only one doing the right thing, or hearing from God. We might
be on the Frontline or in the limelight, but there are some people at
the back stage, standing for righteousness.
2. If we are among
those people placed in the secret by God, we need not feel not feel
bad and rush out before God's appointed time for us. God reserves us
for a reason and for a season.
3. We should stand for what is
right, either in the secret or in the open.
To stand right at all times, we need Jesus to make us right. Give Him a chance in your life today. Have a blessed day.
PRAYER POINT:
1.
Lord, help me to understand Your works and ways, and not tamper with
Your moves.
2. Do help me, O Lord, not to disappoint You anytime
You need me.
3. Pray for sanctification and consecration, so that
you will not miss out of God's programme for your life.
DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
