LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
But His citizens hated Him!

14TH , JULY 2022

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY:  Proverbs 16-17

READ:  Luke 19:11-27

11 Now as they were listening to these things, He proceeded to tell a parable, because He was approaching Jerusalem and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to be brought to light and shown forth immediately.

12 He therefore said, A certain nobleman went into a distant country to obtain for himself a kingdom and then to return.

13 Calling ten of his [own] bond servants, he gave them ten minas [each equal to about one hundred days’ wages or nearly twenty dollars] and said to them, Buy and sell with these while I go and then return.

14 But his citizens detested him and sent an embassy after him to say, We do not want this man to become ruler over us.

15 When he returned after having received the kingdom, he ordered these bond servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know how much each one had made by buying and selling.

16 The first one came before him, and he said, Lord, your mina has made ten [additional] minas.

17 And he said to him, Well done, excellent bond servant! Because you have been faithful and trustworthy in a very little [thing], you shall have authority over ten cities.

18 The second one also came and said, Lord, your mina has made five more minas.

19 And he said also to him, And you will take charge over five cities.

20 Then another came and said, Lord, here is your mina, which I have kept laid up in a handkerchief.

21 For I was [constantly] afraid of you, because you are a stern (hard, severe) man; you pick up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.

22 He said to the servant, I will judge and condemn you out of your own mouth, you wicked slave! You knew [did you] that I was a stern (hard, severe) man, picking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow?

23 Then why did you not put my money in a bank, so that on my return, I might have collected it with interest?

24 And he said to the bystanders, Take the mina away from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.

25 And they said to him, Lord, he has ten minas [already]!

26 And [said Jesus,] I tell you that to everyone who gets and has will more be given, but from the man who does not get and does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

27 [The indignant king ended by saying] But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence!10 And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers, and there arose another generation after them who did not know (recognize, understand) the Lord, or even the work which He had done for Israel.

11 And the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.

12 And they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, Who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods of the peoples round about them and bowed down to them, and provoked the Lord to anger.

13 And they forsook the Lord and served Baal [the god worshiped by the Canaanites] and the Ashtaroth [female deities such as Ashtoreth and Asherah].

14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and He gave them into the power of plunderers who robbed them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer stand before their foes.

15 Whenever they went out, the hand of the Lord was against them for evil as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworn to them; and they were bitterly distressed.

16 But the Lord raised up judges, who delivered them out of the hands of those who robbed them.

MEMORISE: “When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Feed My lambs.” - John 21:15

EXPOSITION

The Lord Jesus Christ asked Peter, the Son of Jonah, a pertinent and thought-provoking question: *Do you love me...?* (Jn.21v15b). To Peter, the question was too poking and unnecessary. Yet, the Lord, who is Omniscient, knew why He asked it. Probably to reveal what was in his mind toward Jesus and his ministry. This can be linked to the expression, *But his citizens HATED him* (Lk.19v14).

Why this? Who are this "his citizens"? This haters of Jesus were the people of His own household, those He came to deliever, the high priests and religious leaders of His days. Read John 1v11 and see the attitude of those Jesus has come for - His own people. What a wickedness and ingratitude! Hope this isn't your attitude as well?

Both the nation of Isreal, according to the flesh, and the Church, the Bride of Christ are God's subjects; that is, the citizens of the nobleman referred to in this passage. They, and we all, in truth and reality by extension, are being challenged today to love our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We do by using all the graces (talents and spiritual gifts) that have been committed to us to advance the Kingdom of God here on earth. Unlike the servant who hid his own talent, don't hide your gifts and graces! Use whatever He has given you to further His business (His kingdom). This in turn, will hasten His desired and most expected overdue quick return. Remember, eternal destruction awaits all those who have chosen to be Christ's enemy (Lk.19v26-27).

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, help me to love You with all I have.

2. Lord, rebuke every antichrist spirit working hatred against the Lord Jesus Christ in my heart, in Jesus name.

3. Pray that Jesus would come back quickly to save the saints from this crookedness and decadence - Maranatha!

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
