LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
WHO TALKS THROUGH YOU?

2ND , JULY 2022

- Civil Rights Act & International Day of Co-operatives

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY:  Psalms 106

READ:  Matthew 16:16-23

16 Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven.

18 And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros—a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra—a huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it].

19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.

20 Then He sternly and strictly charged and warned the disciples to tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

21 From that time forth Jesus began [clearly] to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders and the high priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised from death.

22 Then Peter took Him aside to speak to Him privately and began to reprove and charge Him sharply, saying, God forbid, Lord! This must never happen to You!

23 But Jesus turned away from Peter and said to him, Get behind Me, Satan! You are in My way [an offense and a hindrance and a snare to Me]; for you are minding what partakes not of the nature and quality of God, but of men.

MEMORISE: “Look well to yourself [to your own personality] and to [your] teaching; persevere in these things [hold to them], for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”   - 1 Timothy 4:16

EXPOSITION

Yesterday, the Word Himself warned us to carefully cooperate with the Holy Spirit to discern the very person-the Holy Spirit, or the devil-talking through anyone addressing us at any given point in time. That would save us  a lot of embarrassments.

Today, the Word turns to YOU. It is easy to see the mistakes of others, but difficult to see ones, or easy to try to cover ones up. In Peter's case, in our text for today, he was ignorant of the one (Satan) talking through him, after he had been eariler used of God to confirm the divine Sonship of Jesus. It is likely he had become so complacent because of Jesus commendation after Matt.16v17-19 that he didn't notice when the devil subtly projected himself into his mind to confuse, so to say, Jesus.

*Examine* yourself *as to whether you are in the faith.* *Test* yourself to ensure *that Jesus Christ is in you,* so that you are not *disqualified* in any way (2 Cor. 13v5). Are you very careful as to who talks through you in any situation? Who talks through you when the thought to cheat on, or beat your spouse crops up? Who talks in you when you desire to get rich at all costs becomes stronger in you? Who is talking when you think you are too tried, or you have been too offended to attend your church or programmes any longer? And who talk in you when you are not passionate about the things of God?

Follow Paul's admonition to watch your life and doctrine, as to the source and controller who monitors what you do and teach. It matters a lot if you are to save yourself and those around you, that you are going to account for, anyway (1 Tim.4v16). Beware of the one talking through you in any given situation. You will save yourself a lot of embarrassments.

PRAYER POINT:

1. Holy Spirit, help me to discern who wants to talk through me in all situations, so that I don't become devil's mouthpiece anywhere.

2. Pray against the spirit of error in your judgements and attitudes.

3. Pray that we all would be more careful about what we think and say in all situations, so that we won't be adding salt to injury in the world.

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
