LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
DON’T BETRAY YOUR FRIEND

30TH , JULY 2022

- International Friendship Day & World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY:  Isaiah 29-32

READ:  Matthew 26:47-50

47 As He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve [apostles], came up, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, The One I shall kiss is the Man; seize Him.

49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), Master! And he embraced Him and kissed Him with [pretended] warmth and devotion.

50 Jesus said to him, Friend, for what are you here? Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and arrested Him.

EXPOSITION

Today, being a day of International Friendship Day and Advocating Against Trafficking in Persons, let us talk about the issue of friendship, and this time around, within the context of the home/marriage. The main reason God instituted marriage is COMPANIONSHIP (Gen.2v18). There are two other reasons-forestalling sextual immoralities, and rasing godly children.  Not too encouraging, however is the fact that betrayal is becoming a norm in the world today (c.f.Psa 41v9), in the same way Judas betrayed Jesus.

In marriage, there are so many cases of spouses betraying their partners into lions dens. Ways by which betrayal happens in marriage include money rituals, deliberately exposing sensitive information about one's spouse to anybody, one's parents, inclusive, and deliberately hoarding information that can help one's spouse grow. Other include but are not limited to talking too much about the weakness of one's spouse, abandoning the family altar, as it exposes the spouse back to the enemy, and not giving the needed attention and support to the vision of one's spouse.

The results of such betraying are terrible, just like in the case of Judas (Matt.27v5). The betrayer is doomed (Prov. 17v15). The betrayer's spouse and home are in danger. The betrayer would also partake of the outcome of the shame that would befall the betrayed. To avoid these, let us allow Christ to be fully in charge of our hearts and homes. Learn from the godly Zechariah and Elizabeth. Put God in His rightful place. Let true love (Agape) prevail. And, block undue interferences. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY in our homes!

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, rid me of every satanic thought of betraying my spouse in any way.

2. Pray against use-and-dump tendencies  among our spinsters and bachelors causing them to jilt partners in so-called courtships.

3. Father, help me to forever see my spouse as my God-given true friend, and to relate with her/him as such all my life.

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
