LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
EAT DELICACIES LESS
7TH , JULY 2022
- Global Forgiveness Day & World Chocolate Day
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Psalms 138-144
READ: Daniel 1:8-19
8 But Daniel determined in his heart that
he would not defile himself by [eating his portion of] the king’s rich and
dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of
the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be allowed] not to defile himself.
9 Now God made Daniel to find favor,
compassion, and loving-kindness with the chief of the eunuchs.
10 And the chief of the eunuchs said to
Daniel, I fear, lest my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your
drink, should see your faces worse looking or more sad than the other youths of
your age. Then you would endanger my head with the king.
11 Then said Daniel to the steward whom
the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Prove your servants, I beseech you, for
ten days and let us be given a vegetable diet and water to drink.
13 Then let our appearance and the
appearance of the youths who eat of the king’s [rich] dainties be observed and
compared by you, and deal with us your servants according to what you see.
14 So [the man] consented to them in this
matter and proved them ten days.
15 And at the end of ten days it was seen
that they were looking better and had taken on more flesh than all the youths
who ate of the king’s rich dainties.
16 So the steward took away their [rich]
dainties and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables.
17 As for these four youths, God gave them
knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in
all [kinds of] visions and dreams.
18 Now at the end of the time which the
king had set for bringing [all the young men in], the chief of the eunuchs
brought them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king conversed with them, and
among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah;
therefore they were assigned to stand before the king.

EXPOSITION
A delicacy is a delicious, rare, or highly priced item of food.
Delicacies are basically delicious foods, spiced up with lots of sweeteners.
Even when natural, they have been made into more of synthetic foods, seasoned
with a lot of chemically oriented materials. Experts have hinted that most of
these sweeteners and seasonings portend grave
dangers to our health, even as today marks global forgiveness and world
chocolate day. Diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension, kidney issues,
infertility, etc. have been linked with the excessive intakes of such
delicacies, most especially, the so called processed foods. Only God can save
us in this computer, jet, sophisticated generation.

Mostly likely, God
intended to spare His people the harms associated with poor diets when He gave
them dietary regulations in Leviticus 11. For instance, experts have proved the
fact that intakes of red meats, like those from cattle, and fatty ones, like
pork meats, are counter productive to human health.
In view of the
aforesaid, when Daniel and his 3 Hebrew friends purposely rejected the king's
delicacies at such a tender age, being teenagers, they were actually saving
themselves from spiritual and health problems. Aside the fact that those
delicacies that included pork meats and others religiously abominable meats
were presented to idols before being consumed, they could also harm them health
wise. Look at the result of opting for vegetables and water-health and
spiritual viability (vv.13ff).

Experts advise
that it is better to go for bitter foods and drinks than processed foods and
drinks, most especially, the caffeinated ones. Are you the type who love too
much of sweet foods and drinks? You better have a rethink if you desire
prosperity, longevity, and sound health.
Eat delicacies less; take bitters more. You will be glad you did.
PRAYER POINT:
1. Thank God for the knowledge He gives us on how
to live long and stay healthy.
2. Ask God for the determination to dine and wine
the right (godly) way.
3. Pray for dieticians, that God should give them
more insight to help people out of avoidable health issues ravaging this
generation.
DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
