DON’T DEMEAN GRACE

23RD  , JULY 2022

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 23-25

TEXT:  Jude 1-8

Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,

To those who are called, [a]sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:

Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord [b]God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

And the angels who did not keep their [c]proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;

as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the [d]vengeance of eternal fire.

Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of [e]dignitaries.

KEY VERSE:

“For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.” -  Jude 4

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Does your life dignify God’s grace or demean it?

THE MESSAGE:

When people lack proper understanding of divine benevolence, they abuse and demean it. Many misunderstand God’s grace to be freedom from all obligations of the law and an unrestrained liberty to sin. Apostle Jude, in our text, warned the believers of the early church to be on the lookout for peddlers and preachers who turn the grace of God into lasciviousness – a licence to sin.

He did not fail to tell them that God would bring judgment on all those who fail to maintain the state of true grace that produces righteousness, just as He brought judgment on all those who left Egypt but remained in unbelief and the angels who failed to keep their state of purity. Those who revel in sins, like Sodom and Gomorrah, will eventually face divine judgment. Grace does not release us from the obligations of the laws of God.

Rather, it helps us to keep His righteous laws which we were unable to do when we were in sin. Those who claim they have grace as a liberty to sin only prove that they are yet to receive it. God’s grace brings about true salvation and freedom from all sin. It teaches us to live godly in this decayed world. This is the kind of grace we must seek to have; it is dignifying and not demeaning!

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
