DAVID AND HIS BROTHERS

24TH , AUGUST 2022

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 21, 2 Chronicles 22, 2 Chronicles 23, 1 Corinthians 15:50-58, 1 Corinthians 16:1-4, Proverbs 20:25-30, Proverbs 21:1-4

FIRE SCRIPTURE:  1 Samuel 17:26-32

26 Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

27 And the people answered him in this manner, saying, “So shall it be done for the man who kills him.”

28 Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”

29 And David said, “What have I done now? Is[a] there not a cause?”

30 Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.

31 Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him.

32 Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

THE MESSAGE

David's courage is a product of his character, and his character is a result of his closeness to God and submission to Him. David could face the bears, lion and even Goliath he encountered in his life's journey. David's story is a good example of courage because he faced his problems bravely. He knew and had so much faith that God would help him. Even when his elder brother tried to discourage him when he went to the battlefield to give his brothers food, he didn't allow it. He stood up to his brother in a respectful manner and was surprised that the children of Israelite could not stand up to Goliath, who was insulting the name of the Lord most High.

That was the difference between David and his brothers. David had reverence for God and was very courageous. He didn't allow any disrespect to God to happen anywhere he was because he had a relationship with God and knew Him intimately. But his brothers didn't have any knowledge of how mighty He is and His ability to deliver a person from evil. That was why they were all afraid of Goliath. On the other hand, David was not afraid of Goliath and was able to kill him.

This is the difference between a born-again Christian and an unbeliever. A born-again Christian knows how powerful God is. He or she is a courageous person and has a close relationship with God. A born-again Christian is like David, courageous, strong, a person after God's heart, etc. No situation can make a born-again Christian afraid or sad. A born-again Christian prospers in anything that he lays his hand on. Life is better for a born-again Christian, because he has Jesus.
