The Kingdom Lifestyle (I)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Zechariah 8

FIRE SCRIPTURE:  Matthew 5:1-16

8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

The MESSAGE:

The kingdom of God is an expression of God’s, authority, dominion, character and lifestyle. None has seen the Father, but the Bible tells us that Jesus is His express image. Jesus Christ came to demonstrate the glory, beauty, pattern and lifestyle of the kingdom of God, and He was in every way strange to the society at that time. Jesus Christ was regarded an enemy by the Saducees and the Pharisees because His lifestyle exposed the odious weaknesses and frailties of their worldly lifestyle at that time.

Jesus exemplified the kingdom lifestyle. He preached and taught the kingdom’s principles to the multitudes that came to Him, and also spent quality time exposing the principles and the practice of the kingdom to His disciples. The hallmark of the kingdom lifestyle is best revealed in the book of Matthew from chapters five through to seven in the teaching of Jesus. The sermon of Jesus on the Mount closely reveals to us that Christianity is all about developing a godly character. This is the totality of Christ-like virtues, in word and in deed.

For any Christian to manifest the kingdom lifestyle at all, he or she must exude the fruit of the Spirit. Beloved, you have been redeemed to reflect this kingdom lifestyle. The apostle, Paul, confidently stated that “the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God and approved of men” (Rom. 14:17-18). We are not of this world although we live here. Our citizenship is in heaven (Phil. 3:20-21). Therefore, you should conduct yourself according to the lifestyle that shows your true home country.

In every way possible, you should abstain from worldliness, activity of the flesh and every evil thing that can disqualify you from being who God calls you, thereby losing your heavenly citizenship. Remember, Jesus is the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep and His sheep knows Him. Does Christ know you? Do you know Him? The Bible says that by their fruits we shall know them (Matt 7:16-20). Your fruits are nothing but the manifestation of the kingdom’s lifestyle, a true reflection that you are for Christ. Let your light so shine among men, make the difference! 

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Thank You, Jesus, for making me a child of the kingdom, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Ghost fire, move through my life and burn to ashes all anti-kingdom properties, in the name of Jesus.
3. Every grip of the world upon my soul, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Fire of revival, fall afresh upon me, in the name of Jesus.
5. Iniquity of my father’s house, release me and die, in the name of Jesus.
6. Powers assigned to waste my life, be wasted by fire, in the name of Jesus.
7. Power to live and manifest the kingdom lifestyle, come upon me afresh, in the name of Jesus.
