ADULTERY AND DIVORCE

15^TH OCTOBER, 2021

3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who [a]made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,

 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 

6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 

9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
BY THE THIRTY NINE STRIPES ON THE BODY OF JESUS CHRIST, YOU ARE HEALED FROM THE WOUND OF ADULTERY OF YOUR FATHER'S HOUSE, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

THE MESSAGE:

Adultery is sexual relations in which at least one participant is married to someone else. It also refers to marital infidelity. The union of marriage, as instituted by God Himself, is on permanent basis. The man should leave his father and mother and "cleave" to his wife to become one flesh. As far as God is concerned, divorce is a taboo on the corridor of marriage. It is supposed to be "till death do them part".

The Pharisees came to tempt Jesus by asking if a man can put away his wife (Mark 10:2). Jesus told them that divorce was not part of God's original plan for marriage. It wasn't God's ideal. Instead, God wants married couple to consider their marriage permanent. Don't enter marriage with the option of getting out (divorce). Your marriage is more likely to be happy if from the onset you are committed to permanence.

The turmoil, fear, uncertainty, and fighting affects everyone in the family, particularly the children, who by nature, are very sensitive and dependent upon their parents for emotional and physical stability and safety.

Adultery is an act of injustice towards your spouse. It is breaking the covenant on which the institution of marriage is based. Adultery leads to divorce. Divorce is as hurtful and destructive today as in Jesus' days. It should not be considered as an option for solving problems or a way out of a relationship. Jesus stood against those who purposefully abuse the marriage contract, using divorce to satisfy their lustful desire to marry someone else (Matthew 5:31-32). Are your actions helping your marriage grow stronger, or are you tearing it apart?

Adultery and divorce have a lasting damage in the life of the couples concerned. Firstly, it is hurtful to the spouse concerned. It leaves the marriage partners embittered, disillusioned and financially unstable. Secondly, children from broken homes can easily be recognised among their peers. They have the feeling of insecurity, lack of love and lack of good role model for their own future marriage.

Thirdly, children from broken homes are more prone to anxiety, poor academic performance, drug abuse and delinquent behaviour which are very rampant among the youths today. God gave you the children to guard, guide, direct and nurture. You will give account of your stewardship over the children.

My prayer for you is that you shall not fail heaven over your children, in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Lord Jesus, heal my home of the damage of divorce and polygamy, in the name of Jesus.
2. Every chain of adultery in Christian homes and marriages, break now, in the name of Jesus.
3. Adultery shall not waste the destiny of my children, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Lord Jesus, forgive every Christian home of their sins of adultery and divorce, in the name of Jesus Christ.
5. Every Christian home in the trap of divorce and adultery, I release you now by the blood of Jesus Christ, in the name of Jesus.
6. You dungeons of adultery and polygamy, release all your captives in Christian homes and marriages now, in the name of Jesus.
7. Spirits of adultery and divorce, loose your hold on married men and women and depart from their homes, in the name of Jesus.
