PHILADELPHIA: THE FAITHFUL CHURCH (II)

22^ND NOVEMBER, 2021

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Thessalonians 1-5; 2 Thessalonians 1-3

FIRE SCRIPTURE:  Revelation 3:7 – 13

7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: 

8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

 9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. 

10 Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 

11 Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. 

12 He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.

13 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

THE MESSAGE:

The church in Philadelphia was an extremely strong one because it focused on missionary work. The members were always witnessing and sending people out on missions. When the Mohammedans came to Asia Minor and all the other churches collapsed, the church in Philadelphia stood firm. They told the Mohammedans that they would not convert to Islam but rather, the Mohammedans should become Christians. Till today, a church is still in Philadelphia. It means if you constantly win souls for Christ, God will give you divine ability to overcome all assaults from the pit of hell. Christ made a promise to His faithful followers in Philadelphia to keep them in their hour of trial.

Beloved, this promise extends to all of God's faithful people throughout the ages. In the original Greek, the phrase "keep thee from" can mean either "keep you from experiencing" or "keep you through". For the church then and the church today, both interpretations are relevant. God will help His people to endure and prevail over the difficulties and opposition they experience in the world. Also, He will ultimately rescue them from the final "hour of trial". This final hour includes God's appointed time of wrath and distress that will come on the whole world in the last days prior to the establishment of Christ's kingdom on earth.

God is not slack concerning His promises and a jot of His word will not go unfulfilled. Your faithfulness is required in everything you do for God and His children because there is great reward attached to it.

Beloved, my prayer is that God will make you a good example in your generation, just as He made the Philadelphia church a good reference point. This requires that you maintain a close walk with God daily, spread the gospel and build His kingdom consistently. Those who are in the center of God's will and are doing His work the way He instructs them and at the place and time He gave them will never lack His protection and provision. May the good Lord help you, in the name of Jesus.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Father Lord, give me the power for an effective prayer life, in the name of Jesus.
2. I pull down the spirit of unfaithfulness in the lives of the saints, in the name of Jesus.
3. O Lord, give me wisdom in the knowledge of Yourself, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. I dedicate and claim my environment for Christ, in the name of Jesus.
5. O Lord, give me the spirit of revival, in the name of Jesus.
6. Lord, forgive me for my partial obedience, in the name of Jesus.
7. My Father, let the blessing of faithfulness to Your word be my portion, in the name of Jesus.
