MAKING GODLY CHOICES (3)

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 Kings 4-6

READ: Ephesians 5:21-25

21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

EXPOSITION

There are several things or sections of life that need choice-making. Apart from choice-making in career and partner in marriage, there are other areas of life that one needs to make choices. Today, The Lord will open our eyes to how choice-making can make o ruin our homes, even when one has the right marriage partner from the beginning. Marriage is a life journey. So, every married person definitely has a choice to make in determining how far his/her marriage will last, and be successful. There are different choices in marriage or family that many fail to make today, leading to many marriages being frustrated and scattered. Today, The Lord is opening our eyes to certain important issues as highlighted below:

God: Every family that will last must make God their foundation, which will result in ever-successful home. Joshua made that choice in the Scriptures, not minding the circumstances around, that he and his family would serve The Lord (Jos. 24:15). Outside God, you are gone. Your family cannot be glorious without God in place and at work. Every aspect of your family will always require God’s attention as The great Builder of the home.

Understanding: Outstanding result is generated by great understanding, which plays a major role in family. Misunderstanding has resulted in several problems in families, including divorce, and separations, among others. So, the more understanding you have in marriage, the more outstanding results you will keep experiencing. It is a pity today that some small issues like money, phone calls, friends, and material things have affected some material destinies, due to lack of understanding (Amos 3:3).

Trust, Submission, Respect and Communication: To express these together is a matter of choice. It is a choice to trust, respect, or honour one another, and this is a decision which most Christian homes lack today, to make their marriage work effectively. Some think it is not important, seeing it as old fashioned. Until those choices are made in families, frustration may continue to be the order of the day.

PRAYER POINT:

1. Lord, entrench the quality of result-oriented communication in my home, in Jesus’ name.

2. Pray for every Christian husband to be genuinely loving and sacrificial in their homes.

3. Lord, help Christian wives to be genuinely loving and submissive in their homes.
