THE FINGER OF GOD 2

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 8:1-11

1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 

3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 

4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 

5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 

6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 

8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 

9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 

10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

THE MESSAGE:

Yesterday, we considered what the finger of God is and what it can do. Today, we are still looking at what God's finger is, what it has done, what it is doing and what it will do.

The finger of God is a finger that addresses human conscience, as we read in our Fire today. It is very easy to notice the sin in other people's lives but cover our own (Matthew 7:3-5). Jesus told us that we must take out the beam in your own eyes before you can point your finger to the mole in your brothers' eyes.







The finger of God does not point to sins of others but to your own sins. Jesus told the Pharisees that only the sinless one amongst them should throw the first stone. But writing on the floor with His finger, Jesus highlighted the importance of compassion and forgiveness. When others are caught in sin, you should not be quick to pass judgement as if you have never sinned in your life.

When Jesus said that only the person that had not sinned should throw the first stone, all the woman's accusers slipped away quietly. Their conscience condemned them, but unfortunately, they never asked for that merciful finger that wrote on the floor to forgive them. Even when the magicians recognised the finger of God in Egypt, instead of Pharaoh to let all the Israelites go, he still hardened his heart.

Beloved, don't be like these people. Recognise your sinful nature that the finger of God is pointing at and ask for forgiveness. Remember Jesus did not condemn the adulterous woman neither did He ignore or condone her sin. So also, He is ready to forgive the sins in your life that His finger is pointing at if only you are ready to confess and forsake them.

I pray that the finger of God will locate and destroy all the shackles of sin that the enemy has put in your life, in the name of Jesus. Beloved, the truth you need to buy and not sell is that the finger of God cannot be of any help or benefit to you until you give your life to Christ. Take that quality decision today.








PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Father, release Your finger on my behalf today for great wonders, in the name of Jesus.
2. Lord Jesus, let Your finger fight against my enemies, in the name of Jesus.
3. Lord, by Your finger, do mighty miracles, signs and wonders against my enemies that will make them to acknowledge that You are Lord in my life, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

4. Let the fierceness of Your finger surprise all the enemies that are rejoicing over me, in the name of Jesus.
5. Father Lord, let the power of Your finger, pull down the strongholds of wickedness against my family, in the name of Jesus.
6. Evil fingers of the enemies waging war against me, wither, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord my Father, touch me with Your finger and recreate everything in me that needs recreation, in the name of Jesus.
