LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
A MISERABLE COMFORTER
22ND , JUNE 2022
- World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Psalms 58-64
READ: Job 4:1-9
[1] Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and
said,
[2] If we assay to commune with thee, wilt
thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
[3] Behold, thou hast instructed many, and
thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
[4] Thy words have upholden him that was
falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
[5] But now it is come upon thee, and thou
faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
[6] Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy
hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
[7] Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished,
being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
[8] Even as I have seen, they that plow
iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
[9] By the blast of God they perish, and by
the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

MEMORISE: I have heard many such things; miserable
comforters are you all!– Job 16:2
EXPOSITION
Life is not just about
excitements. There are vicissitudes in the world, and everyone is expected to
have his/her share of life's unfairness, lone time or the other. If God
permitted Christ to suffer unpleasantness when here on earth to fulfil His
purpose, who are you to dodge the challenges of life? Job, a man of integrity,
attested to by God Himself, faced terrible situations no one would have thought
a righteous person would face, but God permitted and monitored it. The best
gift Job's 3 friends could have given him in his time of misfortune was identifying
with him in his pains (Job 2:12-13). Sitting down with a person in pains,
anguish and keeping quiet, as a sign to him/her that you share in his/her pains
- condolence/consolation.

However, some people
aggravate the troubles of those in pains with what they utter to them. They try
to blame the oppressed for their woes, condemning them in the name of
consolation. What miserable comforters! The attitudes of Eliphaz, the
Termanite, was a thorn in the flesh of Job, at that critical moment of his
life. His words and that of Job's other friends were like pus in the bone. He
made Job felt angry, and that anger aggravated his pains to the extent that he
uttered some words that he ought not to have uttered. Are we in any way
different? Our modes of consolation may either aggravate or reduce the pains of
the troubled. It is wrong to be exposing someone else's problem in public in
pretence that you are praying for him/her.
Do not spoil people's
mood on pretence of sympathising with them. You don't know how they feel. Don't
relate with someone in pains based on your own feelings. If you are led to pray
for them, do it in your closet without announcements that may frustrate the
person you are praying for. Don't be a judge over what you know little or nothing
about. Don't be a miserable comforter; be a burden bearer/lifter.
PRAYER POINT:
1. Pray that God will have mercy on you in
those areas where you have acted with wrong zeal in relation to other people's
issues.
2. Pray zealously for as many as you know that
are passing through any form of difficulty that God should mercifully come
through for them.
3. Pray for CAC Latunde Region, our father in
the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by
the Spirit of God.
DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
