LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL
DON'T REBUILD THE HIGH PLACES

7TH , JUNE 2022

EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: Job 28-30

READ: 2 Chronicles 33:1-7

[1]Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
[2]But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
[3]For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
[4]Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
[5]And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
[6]And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
[7]And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

MEMORISE: " If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell." – Matthew 5:29

EXPOSITION

Demolition is the pulling down of a structure. This is done by eithernatural occurrence, or human effort. It can take place either by demolition we are considering in today's devotion. Before the decision to demolish a structure, on most cases, it must have been discovered that it has lost its relevance, or that it poses danger to the environment and people. This informs the decision of the demolition of several high places in Africa, for instance, by the African patriarchs of faith, as it was in the Bible times. Sad to note is the re-erection of these demolished high places in our generation. This pathetic situation can be likened to the foolishness that characterised the reign of Manasseh, the young King who followed the wickedness of his grandfather, Ahaz, than the godly practices and example of his father, Hezekiah. He rebuilt the high places, i.e. altars of idols and led many astray (2 Kgs. 21:1ff).

God used our fathers in faith to demolish the 'high places' built by our African ancestors to 'reach God. There was great deliverance and freedom. The wicked feared and dropped their evils, and turned to true God. It is a pity that today, some people are energetically and passionately rebuilding those demolished demonic high places, giving demons field day in so many places. Is what you are doing wherever you find yourself, demolishing or rebuilding the demolished evils of our fathers, as Manasseh rebuilt the demolished high places in Judah? Consider your ways and actions. Remember, God will one day put to judgement all our actions. Let's all return to the old days of obedience, humility and sacrificial living for God.

PRAYER POINT:

    1. Lord, I refuse to be one of those rebuilding the ungodly practices that have been demolished by our patriarchs of faith.
    2. I refuse to be a contributor to the decadence in the world today, through my actions, reactions and inactions, in Jesus' name.
    3. Pray that God will work with Christian leaders and help them declare the counsel of God to their members.

DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
