SOUL AFLAME FOR GOD

24^TH , JUNE 2022

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  1 Kings 12:25-33, 1 Kings 13, 1 Kings 14:1-20, Acts 16:1-15, Psalm 78:1-8

FIRE SCRIPTURE:   Jeremiah 20:1-10

1 Now Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who was also chief governor in the house of the Lord, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord.

3 And it happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord has not called your name Pashhur, but [a]Magor-Missabib.

4 For thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon and slay them with the sword. 

5 Moreover I will deliver all the wealth of this city, all its produce, and all its precious things; all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies, who will plunder them, seize them, and carry them to Babylon. 

6 And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. You shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die, and be buried there, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.’ ”

7 O Lord, You [b]induced me, and I was persuaded; You are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I am [c]in derision daily; Everyone mocks me.
8 For when I spoke, I cried out; I shouted, “Violence and plunder!” Because the word of the Lord was made to me A reproach and a derision daily.
9 Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
10 For I heard many [d]mocking: “Fear on every side!” “Report,” they say, “and we will report it!”
All my acquaintances watched for my stumbling, saying, “Perhaps he can be induced; Then we will prevail against him, And we will take our revenge on him.”

THE MESSAGE:

 

Man is of three parts: the soul, the spirit and the body. A soul must long for God in order to be set aflame. The soul of man is the centre of will and desire. It is the propelling force of the body.

A soul that has been redeemed is like a pilot's light; it is always burning. Most believers experience initial enthusiasm, bold perseverance, willingness and readiness for the service of the Kingdom, but as we journey the narrow way, we get weary. Beloved, that is the point you just have to turn the gas on and let it burn in your heart.

The second chapter of the book of Revelation encourages the church in Ephesus to remember the first love she forsook. Ask yourself, do you still have the first passion you had then for the gospel? The miles you travelled in the sun and in the rain, just to be in the service for God, what happened to it? The evangelism you did then, what happened to it? Where is the initial fire that was in your bones and made you uncomfortable unless you are in the vigil and church service?

 

A soul that is aflame for God cannot be quenched by the cries of the dead formalism or be blown out by the wind of apathy and politics. A soul aflame for God will not be affected by the lukewarmness that plagues the Church today. When a soul is aflame for God, it cannot be choked out by worldliness or materialism. A soul that is burning for God will declare, "Others may but I cannot."

Daniel was asked not to call upon any other God except the god of Nebuchadnezzar, but because his soul was aflame for God, he could not obey such an order. Similarly, Jeremiah prophesied to a generation that had forgotten the God that redeemed them, but they did not listen to him. He threatened not to preach nor prophesy anymore in the name of God, but the flame of God that burned inside made it impossible for him to keep quiet.

 

Beloved, today you just have to turn on the gas in your soul and be aflame for God.

 

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

1. Fire of God, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.

2. My spiritual life, come out of spiritual mortuary by fire, in the name of Jesus.

3. Anything in me quenching the fire of God, come out by fire, in the name of Jesus.

 

EVENING 

4. Hands of the Living God, take me to the mountain top, in the name of Jesus.

5. O God, arise and set my soul aflame, in the name of Jesus.

6. Powers from my foundation tying me down spiritually, release me and die, in the name of Jesus.

7. Fire of God, burn in my soul, in the name of Jesus.
