Mountain Top Life DAILY DEVOTIONAL
THE POWER OF GRATITUDE (I)
3RD , JULY 2022
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings
6:24-33, 2 Kings 7, 2 Kings 8:1-15, Acts 22:22-30, Acts 23:1-11, Proverbs
16:8-17
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke
17:11-19
11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed
through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men
who were lepers, who stood afar off.
13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy
on us!”
14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to
the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned,
and with a loud voice glorified God,
16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was
a Samaritan.
17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten
cleansed? But where are the
nine?
18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God
except this foreigner?”
19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith
has made you well.”
MEMORY VERSE:
“And Jesus
lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And
I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I
said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.” – John
11:41b-42
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
Thanksgiving unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have to enough and
more.
PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a worship song as led by the HolySpirit.
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
I PRAY
THAT THE LORD WILL MAKE YOU A THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL BELIEVER, IN THE NAME OF
JESUS.
THE MESSAGE:
Cultivating a grateful heart is good for every believer. The key
to attracting more of any good thing heaven has provided or has in stock for
you is to offer thanks to God continually. Giving God thanks genuinely and
daily is a way of acknowledging that He is the Source of every good gift and
blessing in your life. It is a way of according to Him all the glory that are
due to Him for being your Creator and Sustainer, without attempting to share in
His glory or giving it to another being.
Jesus, our role model practised thanksgiving. At the tomb of
Lazarus, He said, "Father, I thank You because You always hear me."
His gratitude honoured God and enabled Him to raise Lazarus to life, a miracle
that further announced His ministry and brought glory to the Father (John
11:41-42). Besides, Jesus condemned ingratitude and encouraged us to be always
grateful. In Luke 17:11-19, the ten lepers had cried to Jesus for mercy and
healing and He cleansed all of them. However, only one of the lepers demonstrated
a genuine heart of gratitude. The Bible says that he returned to Jesus,
glorified God with a loud voice and fell down on his face at Jesus' feet,
giving thanks. Though this man was a Samaritan, his sincere expression of
gratitude was exemplary. What followed? Luke 17:17 says, "And Jesus
answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are
not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said
unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole."
Two important lessons in the incident narrated above is that thanksgiving or gratitude will earn you great things that others have considered you unqualified for or what others cannot access. The man who returned to express gratitude to Jesus was a Samaritan. Jesus called him a stranger. Yet, while others went, healed of leprosy and never returned to thank the Healer and Cleanser, the man who came back to thank Him was made whole. Thanksgiving made him whole. He got a greater miracle
