OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL’
GOD’S CHILDREN ARE OVERCOMERS
27TH , JULY 2022
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 6 – 8
READ: John 17:9-16
9 I pray
for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for
they are thine.
10 And all
mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now
I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy
Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they
may be one, as we are.
12 While I
was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me
I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the
scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now
come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my
joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have
given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the
world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray
not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest
keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world.

MEMORISE:
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” - 1 John 5:4
THE MESSAGE:
One day, one glorious day, I will see God face to face. The word of God
confirms this to me (1 John 3:2).
I don’t know about you, but I am eagerly looking forward to that day. According to (1 Timothy 6:16), this God that we are looking forward to seeing dwells in light that no ordinary man can approach. The glory around Him is so great that it is impossible for any ordinary man to come close to Him, yet I want to see Him. How will that be possible? This is why the Bible says in Ephesians 5:27 that the one who will be the bride of Jesus Christ must be without spot, wrinkle or blemish. Believe me honestly, if you have been thinking that you can make it to heaven with those seemingly little occasional sins you permit in your life, you have been deceiving yourself. There will be surprises on that day. Anyone that has just one spot will not be allowed into heaven on that day. This is why the Bible says in (1 John 1:7) that the Blood of Jesus cleanses from ALL sins. Not 99% of sins, but ALL sins.
In (1 Peter 1:15), we see the standard of holiness that God expects from us:
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation;
We are to be holy as He is holy. In other words, the standard of your
holiness is not to be that of your Pastor or General Overseer because they may think
that some things are tolerable. Your standard of holiness must be as God is
holy. In Matthew 5:48, Jesus Christ Himself said you must be perfect as your
Father in heaven is perfect.
You are to be so holy that in (1 Thessalonians 5:22), the Bible says
that you must avoid even things that just appear evil. Not just what is
actually evil, but everything that appears evil must be avoided. God is very
serious about you living holy, He doesn’t take it lightly at all. You see, if
you are to approach His great glory, you cannot do so with any iota of sin in
your life. Ephesians 5:3-4 says you cannot even partake in unholy jokes, so if
you find some people jesting and it includes some carnality and impurity, you
are not to partake in such jests. Do you really want to see God on that day? If
you do, then you must live completely holy. Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen. – (Matthew 28:20)
The sacrifice of Jesus
Christ would be considered useless if the children of God – those who come to
God through Jesus Christ – were not overcomers. Jesus achieved the ultimate
victory over the devil and over the world, so that the children of God can live
as overcomers. Jesus died on the cross at Calvary for you and was raised from
the dead so that the devil and his agents will not have dominion over you
(Colossians 2:13-15).
You may then wonder why
some Christians still suffer under the oppression of the devil. Well, if a
child of God does not take his place in prayer, Bible study, and holy living,
he cannot enjoy the victory that Christ Jesus won for him. The Bible already
states that we can only judge all disobedience when our obedience is complete
(2 Corinthians 10:6).
The victory in Christ
Jesus that you continually exercise over the devil, challenges, and unpalatable
circumstances is dependent upon your submission to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Submit yourselves
therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – (James 4:7)
Before you resist the
devil and he flees, you must first have submitted to God. If you don’t submit,
the devil will also not flee when you resist him. The devil is not afraid of
you; he knows that he can overcome you if you are not standing in Jesus Christ.
He knows that you don’t have any power to harm him whereas he can harm you. He
knows all these so he cannot be afraid of you. However, when you go under the
authority of the Almighty, then he trembles at your mere presence. The
centurion told Jesus that his soldiers obeyed him because he was a man under
authority (Matthew 8:9). If you want the devil and his agents to obey you, you
must be under the authority of the Almighty. If you want the devil to obey you,
you must be under the authority of the Most High. It is as simple as that.
KEY POINT
It is God’s responsibility to enforce your
victory over the world; it is your responsibility to remain submitted to Him.
DO HAVE A BLESSED DAY
