Caring With a Godly Heart (I)
8TH September, 2021
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joel 1-3
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 15:7-15
7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
8 But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend
him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
9 Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked
heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye
be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto
the Lord against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou
givest unto him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee
in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land:
therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy
brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew
woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year
thou shalt let him go free from thee.
13 And when thou sendest him out free from thee,
thou shalt not let him go away empty:
14 Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy
flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the
Lord thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman
in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command
thee this thing to day.
.
MEMORY VERSE: ”And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due
season we shall reap, if we faint not.” – Galatians 6:9
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle; show some
care, become a channel of blessing to someone.
PRAISE WORSHIP: Take a
worship song as led by the Holy Spirit
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
May
you be blessed as the Lord uses you to bring smiles to someone’s face today, in
Jesus’ name.
The MESSAGE:
Caring is a Christian
virtue and practical living that stems from a compassionate and loving heart.
God is love and everyone that claims to be His children must love and care for
their fellow Christians as well as those outside the fold.
Right from the time
of Adam, God had shown that He cares. He had to take Moses through a humbling
experience in order to prepare him for the divine assignment of leading His
people out of bondage in Egypt. He was shepherding the flock of Jethro in the
Midian desert. There he met with the Lord (Exodus 3:1-3). Unknown to him, it
was part of the divine package to help him develop a caring heart towards the
“stiff-necked” Israelites, his own brethren. Each time they were in need, he
cried unto God in prayer for provisions and responses came from heaven to prove
the faithfulness of God.
Joseph
did not fail to care for his brethren in spite of their hostile behavior
towards him in the years past. He took care of them at a time when famine was
in the land (Genesis 45). This is also true of King David, the Psalmist, a man
with a kind and compassionate heart. No wonder he is called the man after God’s
heart. Though he fell into sin at a time, he was quick to repent and was
restored. It is written concerning both himself and Joseph, “that the Lord was
with him” at all times. David remembered to show kindness to Mephibosheth, the
crippled son of his late friend, Jonathan (2 Samuel 9).
Dearly
beloved, do you ever stretch your hand of fellowship towards others at any
time? (Philippians 2:4). You have so much yet you give so little (Proverbs
11:24-25). You need to turn a new leaf!
Caring
is not only in giving out money, but also in showing love and affection towards
those who have been forsaken and forgotten, the afflicted and the oppressed.
Remember, you don’t have to be rich to be a care giver. God is looking out for
someone who can stand in this position, lighten the burdens of others, bring
joy to people’s hearts and smiles to their faces. You can be that person!
